If Burgundy is a kingdom of wine, Beaune is undoubtedly its capital. Nestled in the heart of the vineyards, this historic town is much more than a destination; it is the soul of our terroir and the perfect starting point for your wine journey.
The Epicenter of Wine History and Historic Houses
For centuries, Beaune has been the global hub of the Burgundy wine trade. It is here that the most prestigious and historic wine houses established their roots. Walking through the streets, you walk alongside names that shaped the history of wine: Maison Joseph Drouhin, Maison Louis Jadot, Bouchard Père & Fils, Maison Louis Latour…Their centuries-old cellars lie beneath the very cobblestones you walk on, housing millions of bottles currently aging.
A Strategic Starting Point: Exploring the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits
One of the greatest charms of Beaune is its human scale. Unlike other wine regions like Bordeaux, where estates are far apart, Burgundy is a mosaic of proximity.
• Minutes apart: From the center of Beaune, you are only a few minutes' drive from the iconic villages of Pommard and Volnay. In just 10 minutes, you can reach the famous white wine slopes of Meursault, and in less than 20 minutes, you can find yourself in the heart of the legendary Grands Crus of Vosne-Romanée.
• Efficiency: In just half a day, you can traverse the entire Côte de Nuits or Côte de Beaune, making it the most efficient base for wine lovers.
• Nature at your doorstep: In just a few minutes' walk from the town center, you arrive in the heart of the Beaune vineyards. Here, you are surrounded by a prestigious mosaic of 42 Premier Cru plots, with Pommard and Volnay just a scenic stroll away.
Gastronomy and the Art of Living in Beaune
Wine is omnipresent here: it is the breath of the city. Beaune is a sanctuary for food lovers, boasting an incredible density of expert wine merchants, cozy wine bars, and restaurants with world-class wine lists.
Experience the authentic taste of Burgundy through our local specialties: Escargots, Jambon Persillé, Bœuf Bourguignon, Epoisses cheese, and the sweet touch of Pain d’Épices. It is a city that celebrates its local products with pride and passion, all while remaining a peaceful, flowered, and beautifully maintained haven.
Heritage and Tradition: The Hôtel-Dieu and the Hospices de Beaune
The city is steeped in history, protected by its ancient ramparts and medieval towers. The jewel of the city remains the Hôtel-Dieu (Hospices de Beaune), founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins to care for the poor.
Today, it remains a global icon through the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction. In November 2026, the city will host the 166th edition of this world-renowned sale. Beyond the glamour, it remains a popular festival—the Trois Glorieuses—where locals gather with friends and family. It is a true heartbeat that brings the city to life every year.

My Personal "Coups de Cœur" in Beaune
Beyond the wine, Beaune is a city of hidden gems. Here are a few of my personal favorite spots to experience the town like a local:
• The Saturday morning market: a must-visit for anyone who loves fresh, flavorful produce. Whether you’re looking for fruits and vegetables that really taste great or high-quality local specialties, this is the place to be. I love strolling among the stalls to find the best local cheeses, farm-raised poultry, and traditional gingerbread. It’s the perfect expression of our local way of life.
• A walk on the Ramparts: A peaceful stroll around the city to discover its ancient walls, bastions, and historical towers. It is the perfect way to see the town from a different angle, revealing hidden gardens and majestic old gates that most visitors miss. It is a quiet journey through the history of Beaune.
• The best tables: Beaune is home to many incredible dining spots, and one of my personal favorites is Restaurant L’Expression, although it doesn't have a Michelin star. Its cuisine is simply outstanding. I highly recommend their signature dish: the Poulet de Bresse. It is, for me, one of the most authentic and delicious ways to taste the excellence of our local terroir.
• Running through the vineyards: One of my favorite rituals is running through the Beaune 1er Cru vineyards toward Pommard. Whether it’s early in the morning before 7 am or late at night after 7 pm, you hardly ever run into anyone. At those times, with the vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see, I feel like the vineyard belongs to me.
